Brad Daugherty biography

Brad Daugherty

Daugherty was welcomed into the world in Mountain Grove, Missouri on the 5th of July, 1961. His initiation into the world of poker began within the confines of his family home and it was the triumphant story of Doyle Brunson that ultimately sparked his interest to pursue poker seriously.

Upon completing high school, Brad started working in the building sector. He came across the story of Doyle Brunson’s successful career in poker, which motivated him to take poker seriously. To kickstart his professional poker journey, he relocated to Reno, Nevada. Brad had a preference for No Limit Hold’em, which he not only excelled at but also enjoyed. In 1987, while juggling a part-time job as a card room manager, someone proposed that he should consider becoming a full-time poker player on the road. Brad embarked on this journey as a roving player upon realizing that he made more money playing poker full time. However, this drastic shift in lifestyle put a strain on his marital life, leading to his divorce in 1989.

Brad perceives himself as adept at understanding individuals. He argues that engaging in online poker complicates the process of deciphering individuals, and he advocates for a prohibition on sunglasses at poker tables. Brad is currently living in Las Vegas, Nevada with his son. Although he does not travel extensively to participate in poker games these days, he continues to compete in significant tournaments and online. His ultimate goal is to once again emerge victorious in the World Series of Poker Main Event.

In 1991, he made history by clinching the inaugural million-dollar top prize at the World Series of Poker Main Event, earning him the coveted bracelet. He also secured a ninth-place finish in the 1993 edition of the event. As of 2009, his cumulative earnings from live tournaments surpassed $1,700,000. His 19 cash-ins at the WSOP contribute $1,158,574 to his total winnings.

Daugherty collaborated with Tom McEvoy on Championship Satellite Strategy and No-Limit Texas Hold’em for New Players as co-authors. He is a married man with three sons and currently lives in the Philippines. In an attempt to raise funds for needy families, he twice offered his 1991 WSOP bracelet for sale on eBay in 2010 and 2011. However, the bracelet remained unsold on both occasions as bids failed to match his reserve price.

In the 1991 WSOP Main Event, Daugherty was among the 215 participants. This was the inaugural year of the Main Event awarding a seven-figure prize of $1,000,000 to the winner. Daugherty emerged victorious, defeating Don Holt in the final heads-up round to claim the prize.

Fast forward to 1993, Daugherty once again reached the final table of the WSOP Main Event. He secured the ninth place, earning a prize of $24,000.
